We all know that a virtual reality headset would be costly, and not everyone can afford it. VR headsets are awesome experiences to have in our daily life though. However, since it is not essential in our daily routine, we do not necessarily have a budget for it.
So the real question is how to play VR games when you don't have a VR headset? There are VR games that allow this, although you won't have as many options as the full-device scenario. But the answer is both yes and no at the same time. In the upcoming sections, we will get to know why yes and why no further.
1. Can We Play Virtual Reality Games Without A Headset?
The answer for us would be not really. The term virtual reality itself represents the experience of gaming in the 3D world. The headset coming along with the pack is responsible for providing that experience for you. It is also the reason why the headset is pricey. But the makers have been putting lots of resources into the headset product as they are a massive income for many providers.
The technology to create the VR headset takes a lot of time and effort to reach its first launch around the world. As a result, without the headset, the VR games would become the usual 2D games, and the gaming experience is nothing like that when you use the virtual reality headset. There are many VR games that allow you VR mode and VR only mode.
The VR and VR-only are distinguished from one another at the term only. VR-only mode will not allow players to play the game without using the headset included. Whilst, the situation is vice versa for the VR mode. You can barely play games from the virtual world without the VR headset. It was invented for this purpose after all.
But as we have mentioned, your gaming experience is not the same at all, so the answer we release to readers would probably not really. It is not that we support spending money on headsets, which is a sum of money that people are not always willing to spend. You help yourself if you can afford it. If not, we think it is fine to play VR games in 2D mode since there are numerous cool virtual reality games with excellent graphics. Hence, why not?
2. Virtual Reality Games That Allows You To Play Without The VR Headsets
As we have mentioned in the last section, you cannot really play virtual reality games without a virtual reality headset. However, we said not really, not impossible. The VR games are playable for the 2D version. It can be less or more enjoyable, depending on the players and the devices they invest in their gaming. Here is our list of the playable virtual games you should try with
The Playroom VR
The Playroom VR is one of the most popular non-VR and VR available games for all people. It is really something of the unicorn because the games following adequate operation and methods are very rare for the non-virtual world.
The Playroom VR is supportive towards multiple players, including those with or without VR headsets. They can all participate and share the fun together by using their PSVR screen.
The game was designed and released to serve this purpose as there are incredible demands in the market. Nevertheless, the game is not really complete, and as we said, it is something of the unicorn - rare and unreal. But it is really nice to join the mini-VR games with other players for sharing joy.
Fallout VR
Fallout VR is a game that demonstrates a post-apocalyptic world, giving you the survival game vibe. The game focuses mostly on the player's survival adventure. We think the game is really nice to play, not for relaxing though since it needs high levels of concentration. You can buy its flat version instead of the VR one.
Resident Evil 7: Biohazards
Resident Evil 7: Biohazards represents to players a stone-cold downright horror game. This one is also not for relaxing. We don't find many relaxing VR games for the flat version, actually. But the thrilling vibes and dark game graphics from Resident Evil 7 would give many of you a goosebump. We think the game is truly a must-play for those fans of horror games.
Half-Life: Alyx
Half-life: Alyx is actually a VR-Only game, and we also promote that it is played with a VR headset. Nonetheless, in recent years, people have been using mods to make it compatible with the flat version. This is another survival dark game, which is quite similar to the Resident Evil 7 but with a distinguished aesthetic. It has received a lot of compliments from gamers around the world.Bound
Bound is probably our favorite game and many others. The vibes of Bound are all about dreamy, unreal beauty, and fairies. When playing the game, you will go with the mysterious and beautiful quests. This is one of the most-played adventurous games of all time. But it is not girly at all if you have mistaken the term fairy.
Skyrim VR
Skyrim VR is a bit gothic, and its vibes and The Witcher's are quite alike. It is another adventure-survival game for players. We love the game graphics and storyline. Its flat version is now available. If you do not have a virtual reality headset, you can consider buying the flat version for the best experience in the game.
Doom VR
The visual of Doom VR reminds us of the movie "Hellboy". We assess game graphics of Doom 8 to 8.5 out of 10, which is pleasing. The modern survival adventure of Doom VR is something you may want to add to your will-play list if you have one. We think Doom VR is worth a try for those who haven't played it before.
Star Trek Bridge Crew VR
We all know about the famous star trek. The storyline is included. The characters are also in the game. If Star Trek has been your favorite, there is no reason why you should miss the Star Trek Bridge Crew game flat or virtual reality version.
Conclusion
We think that nothing is impossible. With the updating technology, there will soon be many flat versions of the VR games you have been looking for if you have not got a VR headset to yourself. We don't think the non-VR experience is not enjoyable as we have been doing it for decades.
A VR experience is a should-have, not a must-have. VR games are also considered that way. If you don't want to play the VR games for a lower experience, you can always switch to the flat games. You have more options and fewer barriers to them.
